Twitch clip to
TikTok.

Twitch can now send a clip to TikTok by itself. Whether that is enough depends on whose clip it is and how much editing you want. Here is the whole flow, from the clip button to the TikTok post.

Short answer: open the clip on Twitch, click Share and pick TikTok. Per Twitch's help center, channel owners can post clips of their channel straight to TikTok, with the title and description filled in, and viewers can do the same only if the streamer turned on Let viewers upload clips to their socials, which is off by default. For more control, download the clip, finish it in a 9:16 editor with captions, and upload it to TikTok as an MP4 or WebM at 720x1280 or higher.

Route 1: Share straight from Twitch

This is the fastest way, and it is built into Twitch. Per Twitch's help center:

  1. Make the clip. Click the clip icon on a live stream or past broadcast, set a length up to 60 seconds, check the portrait crop Twitch suggests, add a title and Publish.
  2. Click Share on the clip, anywhere it can be watched.
  3. Pick TikTok. Twitch fills in a title and description meant to send viewers back to the stream. Replace it if you want.

Who sees the TikTok option:

  • Channel owners can post clips of their own channel to TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram and Snapchat.
  • Viewers only see link sharing, unless the streamer turned on Let viewers upload clips to their socials in Creator Dashboard, Settings, Stream. It is off by default, and it is all or nothing: Twitch has no option to allow only subscribers.
  • When a viewer posts, the streamer's channel name is added as a hashtag that cannot be removed, and if the streamer listed their TikTok in the channel's social links, that handle is tagged too.

Route 2: download, edit, upload

Do it by hand when you want your own captions, a tighter start or text on screen.

  1. Download. In Creator Dashboard, Content, Clips, Twitch lets you download landscape or portrait versions of clips of your channel and clips you created. No portrait option means it has not been made yet: open Edit Clip, adjust the portrait layout and save. Full steps in how to download Twitch clips.
  2. Fix the frame. Use the portrait file, or build a 9:16 layout with your cam on top and gameplay below. The crop itself is covered in how to make Twitch clips vertical.
  3. Add captions. Twitch can do it: clips made with Clip That or Auto Clips have captions by default, other clips have them if the streamer enabled captions and "Add Captions" was picked, and the channel can edit the text for 30 days. Otherwise add them in your editor and check names, which is where auto captions slip.
  4. Cut the start. The clip should open on the moment, not the ten seconds before it.
  5. Upload to TikTok. In the app, or on the web in TikTok Studio, where you set the caption, the cover and who can watch, and can run a copyright check on the sound before posting.

TikTok's specs for a Twitch clip

TikTok's help page for TikTok Studio lists what a web upload must be:

  • Format: MP4 or WebM.
  • Resolution: 720x1280 or higher. That is the 9:16 shape that fills a phone screen.
  • Length: up to 30 minutes.
  • Size: under 10 GB.

A Twitch clip fits all of that easily, since it tops out at 60 seconds. The number that does matter is TikTok's Creator Rewards Program: it only pays on videos at least one minute long, and it also asks for 18 or older, 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the last 30 days. A single Twitch clip only reaches the minute if it runs the full 60 seconds. Do not pad a 20 second moment to get there: TikTok does not count views shorter than 5 seconds, so a clip people swipe past earns nothing. More in best clip length and how much TikTok pays.

Which Twitch clip editor for TikTok

If Twitch's own editor is not enough, these are the usual picks. All of them start from a clip you already made.

  • Twitch's Clip Editor. Free. Trims, retitles, sets a Stacked or Full portrait layout and toggles captions. Portrait editing is desktop only for now.
  • StreamLadder. Built for Twitch clips. Free editing exports at 720p and 30fps without a watermark; captions and posting to TikTok start at $15 a month.
  • CapCut. A general editor with a free 9:16 resizer and free auto captions, per its site. Most control, most work.
  • Cross Clip by Streamlabs. Paste a clip URL, drag the frames, export. Free with a watermark and outro; Pro is $4.99 a month on the App Store. See Crossclip alternatives.

Budget ten to twenty minutes per clip if you want the captions right.

Posting another streamer's clip

Clipping a channel and posting that clip on your TikTok are separate questions.

  • Twitch's side. The direct post only works if the streamer turned it on, and Twitch tags their channel. If they switch the setting off later, Twitch says it cannot remove clips already posted to TikTok; the streamer has to go to TikTok.
  • TikTok's side. Its Intellectual Property Policy does not allow content that infringes someone else's copyright. Infringing posts can be removed and repeat infringers banned.
  • Money. Creator Rewards only pays on original content. TikTok lists content reproduced from others with only slight changes, and videos built from other people's footage without new ideas of your own, as not original.

So ask first. Some streamers run clipping programs with their own rules for exactly this. See how to get permission to clip a streamer and how to avoid copyright strikes.

Route 3: clips that arrive ready for TikTok

If it is your own stream, you can skip the clip button, the download and the editor. ReelShift watches your Twitch stream while you are live, follows what you say (stories, jokes, hot takes, big reactions) and on game streams reads kills and wins off the screen, then cuts each moment on its own. Every clip comes back reframed to 9:16 with word-synced captions burned in, usually while you are still streaming. Say "clip that" to grab the last 60 seconds yourself.

You review the clips, download the keepers and post them from your TikTok app, ideally while the stream is still running. ReelShift makes its own clips from the live stream, so it does not touch your Twitch Clips Manager. It is built for live streams; past VODs and uploads are on Creator Plus. Plans start at $24.99 a month after a 7 day free trial. See the Twitch clipper and the best time to post clips.

FAQ

Quick answers.

Can you post a Twitch clip directly to TikTok?

Yes. Per Twitch's help center, channel owners can post clips of their channel to TikTok from the Share button. Viewers can too, if the streamer turned on Let viewers upload clips to their socials.

Why is there no TikTok option when I share a clip?

Twitch's Share menu only shows what applies to you. For a viewer, TikTok appears only if the streamer enabled the setting, which is off by default. Otherwise download a clip you made and upload it yourself.

What size should a Twitch clip be for TikTok?

Vertical 9:16. TikTok's web upload takes MP4 or WebM at 720x1280 or higher, up to 30 minutes and under 10 GB.

Can I remove the channel hashtag Twitch adds?

Not when a viewer posts a streamer's clip: Twitch says the channel name hashtag is added on TikTok and cannot be removed. It is not added on YouTube.

Do Twitch clips have captions?

Clips made with Twitch's Clip That or Auto Clips have captions by default. Other clips have them if the streamer enabled captions and Add Captions was picked. The channel can edit or remove them for 30 days.

Is there a free way to do this?

Yes. Twitch's portrait clips and Share button cost nothing, and CapCut and StreamLadder have free editing. What it costs is your time per clip.
