Streamers get paid from subs, tips, ads, sponsors and, on Kick, per stream. Each platform has its own requirements, and several changed in 2026. Here is what each one pays and what it takes to get there.

Short answer: streamers earn from subscriptions, tips and gifts, ads, sponsors and on Kick, a per stream payout for Partners. The bar to start is low now. Twitch (since June 2026): 25 followers, 4 hours streamed, 4 different days and 3 average viewers to become an Affiliate and get paid. Kick: stream 5 hours to unlock subs, and you keep 95%. TikTok LIVE: 18 or older to receive Gifts. YouTube: 500 subscribers for memberships and Super Chat. Getting paid is easy to unlock. Getting viewers is the hard part.
The ways streamers get paid
- Subscriptions: viewers pay monthly to support you.
- Tips and gifts: Bits on Twitch, KICKs on Kick, Gifts on TikTok LIVE, Super Chat on YouTube.
- Ads: a share of the ads that run on your stream.
- Per stream pay: Kick's Partner Program pays based on how many viewers show up.
- Sponsors and affiliate links: brands pay you to show or link their product.
Twitch: new rules in 2026
Twitch changed a lot this year. On 13 May 2026 it opened Bits, subs, emotes, badges and Channel Points to all eligible streamers. You still need to be an Affiliate or Partner to get paid out. The new Affiliate bar, from early June 2026:
- Stream for 4 hours
- Stream on 4 different days
- 25 or more followers
- At least 3 average viewers (on 4 different days)
That is lower than the old 50 followers, 500 minutes and 7 days that most older guides still quote.
What Twitch pays:
- Subs cost viewers $5.99, $9.99 or $24.99 in the US. The standard split is 50/50.
- Plus Program: earn 100 Plus Points a month for 3 months in a row and your split goes to 60/40, or 300 points for 70/30. A Tier 1 sub is 1 point, Tier 2 is 2, Tier 3 is 6.
- Bits: 1 cent per Bit.
- Ads: Affiliates and Partners who run 3 or more minutes of ads per hour get a 55% share of ad revenue.
- Payouts start at $50.
Partner: complete the Path to Partner achievement in your dashboard, or show Twitch a large following elsewhere.
Kick: 95% to you
Kick's pitch is the split. Per Kick's help center:
- Subs unlock after 5 total hours of streaming. That is the only requirement.
- You keep 95% of subs ($4.75 of a $5 sub) and 95% of KICKs, Kick's tipping currency.
- Kick Partner Program: pays you every stream based on how many viewers show up. To apply, in the past 30 days you need 75 average viewers, 30 hours streamed, 25 active subs, 250 unique chatters and 3 VODs, plus 250 followers and a verified channel. Meeting them does not guarantee entry.
- Multistreaming: Partners who also stream elsewhere get 50% of their usual Partner revenue.
- Payouts go through Stripe. Verified streamers can pick weekly or monthly, others are paid monthly.
TikTok LIVE: Gifts
- You must be 18 or older to go LIVE and to receive Gifts (19 in South Korea).
- Gifts turn into Diamonds, which measure the Gifts you received. Diamonds can be withdrawn for money.
- LIVE Subscription lets viewers pay monthly. When TikTok launched it, it was invite only for creators 18+ with at least 1,000 followers.
- LIVE agencies (Creator Networks): TikTok says these are independent businesses it does not endorse. Read any contract carefully.
YouTube: memberships and Super Chat
- Fan funding (channel memberships, Super Chat): 500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 watch hours in a year or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days.
- Ad revenue: 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 watch hours in a year or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days.
YouTube has also announced changes to the Partner Program starting 1 February 2027. Check its page before you plan around these numbers.
The part nobody can unlock for you: viewers
Every payout above scales with viewers. Most new viewers now find streamers through short clips on TikTok, Shorts and Reels, not by browsing live directories. So the streamers who grow are usually the ones who post clips of every stream.

How many viewers do you need to make money streaming?
To get paid on Twitch you need 3 average viewers as part of the Affiliate bar. On Kick, subs unlock after 5 hours with no viewer minimum. Making real money takes far more viewers than that.
Which platform pays streamers the most?
Kick gives the biggest share of each sub (95%). Twitch starts at 50/50 and goes up to 70/30 through the Plus Program. In practice, where your audience watches matters more than the split.
Can I stream on more than one platform?
Check each platform's rules. Kick Partners who multistream receive 50% of their usual Partner revenue.
When does Twitch pay out?
Once you are an Affiliate or Partner and your balance passes the $50 minimum.
How do streamers get sponsors?
Usually by showing a steady audience. Brands look at average viewers, clip views and how engaged chat is. A media kit with those numbers helps.
