Both consoles can go live on their own, with no PC and no capture card. Here is the setup on each, and the one platform that needs more gear.

Short answer: on PS5, press the Create button, choose Broadcast, pick the service and link your account, set your options and select Go Live. On Xbox Series X|S, open the guide, go to Capture and Share, then Live streaming, and link your account. Twitch and YouTube are supported this way. Kick is not: Kick's own setup page lists only PC software, so streaming Kick from a console needs a capture card and a PC.
How to stream from a PS5
- Press the Create button on your controller.
- Choose Broadcast.
- Pick the service. PlayStation's support page names YouTube and Twitch as examples, and says some services require two-factor authentication, which Twitch does.
- Link your account when asked.
- In Broadcast Options, choose whether to include your camera, your microphone and party audio.
- Select Go Live.
Note that PlayStation does not publish a full list of supported services, so the choices you see depend on your console and region.
How to stream from an Xbox
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Go to Capture and Share, then Live streaming.
- Link your account, usually by scanning a code or entering a URL on your phone.
- Choose Go live now.
Xbox Support notes that streaming through a provider may require that provider's app on the console. Chat is easier to read on your phone or PC while you play.
What about Kick?
Kick's official setup page lists OBS, XSplit, Streamlabs Desktop and MELD. No console is mentioned. So the documented way to get console gameplay onto Kick is:
- A capture card connected between your console and a PC.
- OBS on the PC, using Kick's stream URL and key.
Setup steps for that are in how to stream on Kick and how to set up OBS. You may find tutorials that reroute a console's native stream to Kick without a card. Kick does not document those, so they can stop working at any time.
Settings and limits
- Console streaming is simple on purpose. You get a camera, a mic and a few quality options, not scenes, overlays or alerts. Those need a PC.
- Your upload matters more than the console. Twitch accepts up to 7.5 Mbps at 1080p, and Kick up to 8,000 kbps.
- Clips are not included. Both consoles save gameplay recordings to the console, which is not the same as a clip for TikTok.
Getting clips off a console stream
Your console can record gameplay, but those files sit on the console and come out wide.
