How to clip on PS5

PlayStation says your recent gameplay is recorded automatically in the background, and you can save anywhere from the last 15 seconds up to 1 hour.

1. Press the Create button on your DualSense controller.
2. Select Save Recent Gameplay and pick how much to save.
3. To record what happens next instead, choose to start a new recording. PlayStation says you can record up to 1 hour.

Faster shortcut: in Settings > Captures and Broadcasts, under Shortcuts for Create Button, pick Standard, Easy Screenshots or Easy Video Clips. PlayStation's sharing guide says a double tap of the Create button saves the last 30 seconds, and you can change that length to 15 seconds, 3, 5, 15 or 30 minutes, or 1 hour. The same settings area lets you change file type and resolution, and turn on 4K recording with a compatible display.

Heads up: some games block certain scenes, and those parts won't be in your clip.

How to clip on Xbox Series X|S

1. When something good happens, press the Xbox button to open the guide.
2. Press X to save the last 30 seconds.
3. Want more? Press the View button instead and pick a duration, up to the last 2 minutes.

With the Share button (between View and Menu on the Series X|S controller): a single press takes a screenshot, and pressing and holding saves a clip of what just happened. You can change what press and hold do in the Xbox Accessories app.

Longer recordings: open the guide and select Capture & share > Start recording. Xbox says clips can last up to 10 minutes on internal storage or 1 hour on external storage, depending on resolution and space. Set clip resolution in Profile & system > Settings > Preferences > Capture & share. For 4K clips, your TV output must be set to 4K.

How to clip on Switch and Switch 2

1. In a compatible game, press and hold the Capture button. On the original Switch it is on the left Joy-Con.
2. Nintendo says up to 30 seconds of gameplay from before you pressed it will be saved.
3. Find it in the Album on the HOME Menu.

Which games? Only games that support video capture. Nintendo's Switch help page names examples like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Breath of the Wild, ARMS and Splatoon 2, and says more titles are added over time. If nothing saves, check that the game supports video capture and is updated to its latest version.

Trim it in the Album: on Switch, select the video, then Editing and Posting > Trim. On Switch 2, select the video, press A and choose Trim Video.

Get the clip to your phone or PC

• PS5 to phone: turn on Auto-Upload in Settings > Captures and Broadcasts > Captures, or in the PlayStation App under Library > Captures. Clips under 3 minutes and up to 1080p upload, stay for 14 days, and you tap Download to save one to your phone. The console needs to be in rest mode and connected to the internet. PlayStation Plus is not required.
• PS5 to PC: in the Media Gallery, select the clip, then More > Copy to USB Drive.
• Xbox to phone: captures upload to the Xbox network automatically. In the Xbox mobile app, go to My Library > Captures, pick the clip and tap Share or Copy link. From the console you can also pick the Mobile option to send it to the app.
• Switch to phone: in the Album, select the video, then Posting and Editing > Send to Smart Device, and scan the QR code. Nintendo says you can send up to 10 screenshots and one video at a time. On Switch 2 you can also send captures to the Nintendo Switch App, which shows the latest 100 from the last 30 days.
• Switch to PC: Settings > Data Management > Manage Screenshots and Videos, then the copy to computer over USB option. Use a data USB cable in the console's own USB-C port, not the dock.

Post it on TikTok

1. In the TikTok app, tap the Add post + button at the bottom.
2. Tap Upload and pick your clip.
3. Trim it, add text or sound, then tap Next.
4. Write a description, add hashtags and tap Post.

On a computer, click Upload at the top of TikTok and select the file. TikTok notes that a web upload posts the whole video, so trim it in the app if you need to.
