How to clip on
PS5, Xbox and Switch.

PS5: controller, voice or keyboard

With the controller. Press the Create button on the DualSense and pick Save Recent Gameplay (the last 15 seconds up to 1 hour) or Start New Recording (what happens next, up to 1 hour; press Create again to stop). Some scenes are blocked by the game and won't be in the clip.

Faster: double tap Create to save the last 30 seconds without the menu. PlayStation's sharing guide says you can set the double tap length in Settings, Captures and Broadcasts, Shortcuts for Create Button: 15 seconds, 3, 5, 15 or 30 minutes, or 1 hour.

With your voice. Voice Command (Preview) works for PlayStation accounts registered in the US and the UK, in English. Turn it on in Settings, Voice Command (Preview), then say "Hey PlayStation" and "Capture that" to save recent gameplay at your settings length, or "Capture the last 5 minutes" (any length from 15 seconds to 60 minutes). "Start recording" and "Stop recording" work too.

With a keyboard. PS5 takes USB and Bluetooth keyboards, but PlayStation only lists typing settings for them, no capture key. Keep the controller in reach for Create, or use Voice Command.

PS5: mic, party chat and Discord audio

Your voice and your party are only in the clip if you turn them on:

1. Go to Settings, Captures and Broadcasts, Captures.
2. Under Audio sharing Settings, select Video Clip Format and choose whether to include your microphone audio, voice chat audio, or both.
3. You can also change this mid game from Capture Options in the Create menu.

• Party chat: each member decides in their own Voice Chat Settings whether their voice can be used in other players' broadcasts and video clips. PlayStation asks you to check with the party before you record them.
• Discord: PlayStation is clear that Discord voice chat audio is not recorded in PS5 captures or broadcasts. To get Discord voices in a clip, record outside the console, for example with a capture card into a PC that runs Discord and OBS with the Replay Buffer.

Fortnite on PS5 and Xbox

Besides the console buttons, Epic gives Fortnite two tools:

• Replays. The Replay System is in the Career tab of the lobby on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Rewatch the match and capture the moment with the console. Consoles keep up to 10 saved replays (rename one to save it); Epic says old replays stop working after an update unless saved.
• Postparty. Epic's phone app for Fortnite clips. Sign in with the Epic account you play on, then hold Options on PlayStation or Menu on Xbox during a match. The last 30 seconds land in the app to trim and share. Epic says voice and text chat are not included.

Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One

The steps are the same on Series X, Series S and Xbox One:

1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, then X to save the last 30 seconds.
2. For a longer stretch, press View instead and pick a duration, up to the last 2 minutes.
3. To record what happens next, open the guide and choose Capture & share, Start recording. Xbox says clips run up to 10 minutes on internal storage or 1 hour on external storage, depending on resolution and space. Open the guide and press X to stop.

Share button: on the newer Xbox Wireless Controller (the one that comes with Series X|S), a press takes a screenshot, a hold saves what just happened, and a double press shows your recent captures.

Settings: clip resolution and Allow game captures are in Profile & system, Settings, Preferences, Capture & share. 4K clips need an Xbox One X or later with the TV output set to 4K. Some games block recording.

Keyboard and mouse: the Windows logo key opens the guide, then Tab or the arrow keys and Enter reach Capture & share. Xbox lists no single capture key, and a mouse only works in games and apps that support it, not on the dashboard.

Xbox: mic, party chat and Discord audio

Xbox's capture help has no setting to add your mic or party chat, and Xbox calls chat audio in captures a new feature it is testing. Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead ring got it on August 5, 2026:

• In a party, you choose whether party chat goes into your recordings, and each player controls whether their own voice can be captured.
• Outside a party, you can include game chat audio.
• Regular console updates through October 7, 2026 did not include it.

Discord on Xbox: Xbox says Discord voice channel audio can't be broadcast through Twitch, and its capture help has no Discord option. Moving a Discord call to your Xbox also takes you out of Xbox party chat. For Discord voices in a clip, use a capture card and a PC.

Cloud gaming and the Xbox app on PC

• Xbox Cloud Gaming: Xbox's support pages do not cover capturing in cloud gaming, so we could not confirm it works. They do say game clips can't be captured while streaming with remote play.
• Xbox app on PC: on Windows, captures go through Game Bar. Press Windows + Alt + G to record the last few moments, and set the length on Windows 11 in Settings, Gaming, Captures, Record the last. Game Bar only shows captures saved on that PC; your console's uploaded clips are in the Xbox mobile app. More in how to clip on PC.

Switch and Switch 2

1. In a supported game, press and hold the Capture button. On Switch 2 it is on the left Joy-Con 2.
2. Up to 30 seconds from before you pressed it is saved.
3. Find it in the Album on the HOME Menu. To trim on Switch, select the video, then Editing and Posting, Trim. On Switch 2, select it, press A and choose Clip Video.

"Videos cannot be captured for this software"? Nintendo says update the console and the game and free up space (Switch 2 holds up to 1,500 videos in system memory, 5,000 on a microSD Express card). If it still fails, the game or that scene does not allow video capture.

Audio: Nintendo says that on Switch 2, captures made while you use GameChat record only your game screen. Neither the picture nor the audio of voice and video chat is recorded.

Fortnite on Switch

Epic's v5.40 patch notes say it disabled video capture for Nintendo Switch "for performance and stability reasons", so holding Capture will not save a Fortnite video there.

• Postparty is Epic's workaround. Sign in to the Postparty phone app with the same Epic account, then use the clip button during a match; Epic's default on Switch is +. The last 30 seconds appear in the app.
• No replays on Switch: Epic lists the Replay System for PC, PlayStation and Xbox only.
• Switch 2: neither Epic nor Nintendo says whether Fortnite allows video capture there. Hold Capture once in a match; if it refuses, use Postparty, or record the dock's HDMI output with a capture card.

Get the clip to your phone

• PS5: link the console to the PlayStation App, leave it in rest mode with Stay Connected to the Internet on, then in the app go to Library, Captures and select Enable. Clips under 3 minutes, up to 1920x1080, upload by themselves and stay 14 days.
• Xbox: pick a clip under Capture & share, Recent captures and choose Mobile, or open the Xbox mobile app, My Library, Captures. Uploads may be deleted after 90 days, so back up keepers to OneDrive.
• Switch: in the Album, pick the video, select Sharing and Editing, Send to Smartphone and scan the QR code. Up to 10 screenshots and one video go at a time.
• Switch 2: in the Album, choose Upload to Smart Device, then open the Nintendo Switch App, which shows the latest 100 uploads from the last 30 days.
