How to become
a clipper.

You do not need a degree or expensive software to become a clipper. You need a good eye for moments, a fast workflow, and proof that your clips get watched.

Short answer: learn to spot moments and cut them into tight vertical clips with captions and a strong hook. Build a small portfolio from campaign clips or clips you have permission to post. Then find work in two places: open clipping campaigns, and streamers who have no clipper yet, whom you pitch with free samples. Charge per clip or per month. There is no standard rate, so agree the price and what it includes in writing.

Skills and tools

The skills that matter:

  • Spotting moments. Knowing which 30 seconds out of 5 hours people will share.
  • Cutting tight. Starting on the moment, not before it.
  • Vertical framing. Fitting the cam and the action into 9:16.
  • Captions and hooks. Most of the work of getting someone to stop scrolling.
  • Speed. The first good clip of a moment usually gets the views.
  • Knowing the rules of each platform and each campaign.

The tools: a way to catch moments (Twitch clips run up to 60 seconds, Kick clips 10 to 180 seconds), a video editor, captions, and a spreadsheet to track results. See how to clip on Twitch, how to clip on Kick and how to add captions.

Build a portfolio

Streamers hire proof, not promises. Two clean ways to get it:

  1. Campaign clips. Clips you post under a clipping campaign are allowed by its rules, and their views are real results you can show.
  2. Private samples. Cut two or three clips from a streamer's latest stream and send the files to them directly. Do not post them publicly until they say yes.

Keep your best 5 to 10 clips in one place: one account, or a simple page with links. Save a screenshot of each clip's analytics. A streamer will care more about "this clip held viewers to the end" than about your editing software.

Find streamers and campaigns

  • Campaigns: open to join, with the rules and rate set up front. Start here to get your first results. See how to find clipping campaigns and the Whop clipping guide.
  • Growing streamers: channels with regular streams and good moments, but no clip pages yet. Search their name on TikTok and YouTube to check.
  • Their own channels: some streamers post in their Discord or on social media when they are looking for a clipper.

How to pitch a streamer

Keep it short, lead with the samples, and make saying yes easy. A message you can adapt:

Hi [name], I watch your streams and cut three moments from [day]'s stream as vertical clips with captions. They are attached and not posted anywhere. I can do [number] clips from every stream and post them on a clip page that credits you, or send them to you to post yourself. Want to try it for two weeks and see how they do?

  • Send it where they take business messages, like a business email listed on their channel.
  • Follow up once after about a week. If there is no answer, move on.
  • Never post the samples before you get a yes.

How to price your work

There is no standard published rate for clipping. Clippers usually charge in one of these ways:

  • Per clip: simple, good for trial runs.
  • Per month: a set number of clips or streams covered, good for steady work.
  • Per view: how campaigns pay, at a rate per 1,000 views that the campaign sets.

Whatever you pick, write down what is included: how many clips, which platforms, how fast after the stream, who owns the accounts, and how many revisions. For real numbers, see how much clippers make. Most clips earn little, and results vary.

Where ReelShift fits

Speed is the skill that is hardest to learn by hand. ReelShift catches moments from a public Twitch, Kick, YouTube or TikTok LIVE stream while it is live and gives you vertical, captioned clips within minutes, so you can cover more streams for more clients. The Agency plan runs up to 10 channels. See pricing.

FAQ

Quick answers.

Do I need experience to become a clipper?

No. You need a portfolio that shows your clips get watched. Campaign clips are the fastest way to build one.

How much should I charge as a clipper?

There is no standard rate. Charge per clip for a trial and per month for steady work, and write down what the price includes.

Where do I find streamers who need a clipper?

Look for streamers who stream often but have no clip pages yet, and check their Discord and social media for clipper posts.

Can I post sample clips before a streamer agrees?

Don't. Send the files privately. Post only after they say yes, or under a campaign that allows it.

Can I clip from my phone?

Yes. Phone editors work. It is slower than a desktop setup or an automatic clipper.
